Turkey on a Straw Hat Instructions:
1. Print out the turkey hat pattern and cut out all the pieces. Trace each piece onto felt in the desired colors (see our photo for color suggestions). Cut out all the felt pieces. If you’re using real feathers, just skip the feather pattern section.
2. Glue on the turkey’s face (eyes, nose and red wattle) as the center of your work. Glue felt “feathers” around the top of the hat, as shown. Real feathers, dyed in suitable colors, would also look wonderful.
3. Glue the brown “bib” shaped piece around the top of the hat bowl, overlapping the bottom part of the feathers. This will be embellished later with gold glitter paint or glitter glue sticks.
4. Glue the two brown felt “hands” right next to the bib shape, on either side.
5. Make a big bow out of deco mesh ribbon or use your own choice of bow. I like this quick video tutorial on YouTube to make an easy bow from craft mesh and they do add an eye-catching flourish to your work.
5. Glue the yellow legs on the back of the hat.
6. Add swirls of gold glitter paint to the brown felt and feathers. Using gold glitter glue sticks will add more of a dimensional effect. One straight line is all you need for the feathers; any more and they look more like leaves. Add some gold glitter dots to the bow.
7. Lastly, secure a small piece of wire to the top back of the hat to hang from the door. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
