A diabetic friend of mine loves this sugar-free Swiss Mocha Jar Mix recommended by the Canadian Diabetes Association. She said the first sip or two are just what you’d expect: coffee infused with chocolate. While the absence of sugar is noticeable, the overtone of chocolate goes a long way to enriching the flavor of her morning cup of java. It’s her wake-up beverage of choice now.
I made this mini, half-cup jar of swiss mocha coffee mix especially for her but I doubled the recipe and kept some for myself. So, I can confirm, it’s a switch up from my usual instant brew and nice having a quick choice between straight coffee and this cocoa-infused swiss mocha.
I also occasionally indulge in some of these fantastic coffee mix in a jar flavors although all of them, except the Instant Cappucino, do include sugar. This recipe, however, pairs very well with Sugar-Free Instant Rice Pudding Mix, so please consider making both for yourself and for friends.
Swiss Mocha Instant Coffee Mix
- 1/2 cup Instant skim milk powder
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 tablespoons good-quality instant coffee
Makes half a cup of coffee mix.
Yield: 4 servings
Each serving of 2 tablespoons has about 32 calories, 5 G carbohydrate, 3 G protein, 1 serving skim milk.
Jar Mix Instructions:
Combine ingredients in small food processor or blender. Blend at high speed until well mixed. Or
place the ingredients in a mason jar or plastic bag and shake to combine.
For gift-giving, place the coffee mix into a half cup jar. You may have to tap the jar a few times to get the ingredients to settle in and fit well.
Dress the jar up, as I did, by covering the lid with a small fabric circle and attaching a little label to identify the contents. I cut out both the fabric and the label with decorative edge scissors. Write, “Place 2 tbsps in a cup and add boiling water” on the back of the label and your present is ready for giving.
