Vintage Tablecloth Crochet Pattern
Introduction by Jane Lake
The square motif featured on this beautiful vintage tablecloth pattern measures 2½ inches square. It is comprised of eight rows that together form a spiral pattern reminiscent of a sunflower and sunrise. As you can see, the overall geometric design is stunning.
You’ll need to make and join a total of 713 motifs for a completed tablecloth measuring sixty by eighty inches.
Modern crochet thread, such as DMC Cordonnet Cotton, Size 50
, can be substituted for the antique threads mentioned here, which are no longer available. Just be sure to measure your first motif for gauge; if it is larger, or smaller, than 2½ inches square, then your tablecloth will also be larger or smaller than the pattern sample. You can also try adjusting the size of the crochet needle to achieve the proper gauge.
If the difference is only slight, but you like the lacy effect of the motif, consider going ahead anyway. Since this is a tablecloth, the size difference only means that your work will overhang a little more (or a little less) than it might; if this isn’t a big issue for you, you can proceed with the pattern as directed.
