This free pattern to make a crocheted poppy produces a luxurious, ruffled flower. The crocheted center could be done in any contrasting color, or you could replace it with a large button or pompom.
How to Crochet a Poppy

If crocheted in worsted weight yarn, the finished poppy measures about four inches across.
If you use a lighter yarn, the flower would be smaller.

Materials:
» worsted weight yarn for four inch poppy; lighter yarn for a smaller flower
» crochet hook: 2.50mm – 3.00mm
Pattern Instructions:

Ch. 4 and join.
Row 1: Ch. 3 (counts as one dc), 15 dc in ring, and join. (16 dc)
Row 2: Ch. 3, 2 dc in each space, and join. (32 dc)
Row 3: Ch. 3, 4 dec in each space, and join.

Row 4: Ch. 3, 2 dc in each space, join, and break yarn.
Ruffle:
With contrasting yarn, join at any dc. *Sc in next 8 dc, ss into 2nd sc to make a loop.* Repeat from * all around, and ss to join.
Optional Center:
Ch. 3, 11 dc in ring.
Ch. 3, 2 dc in each space, join and break yarn.
