Crochet Pattern to Make a Net Bag
These are great multi-purpose bags to fold up and tuck into your pocket – or the glove box of your car (you don’t really use it for gloves, anyway, now do you?)
It’s environmentally friendly, perfect for groceries or shopping, and with all the stores that are charging for bags these days, it will save you money too.
SUPPLIES:
South Maid Cotton 8″ – 2 skeins, No. 803 Cream
Susan Bates® Crochet Hooks: U.S. Size G-6 (4mm) and J-10 (6mm)
GAUGE: In St st-14 sts = 3″; 26 rows = 4″ with larger needles.
CHECK YOUR GAUGE: Use any size needles to obtain the gauge given.

With a smaller hook, ch 5; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 14 dc in ring; join with a sl st to top of ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, *2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join – 30 sts.
Rnd 3: Rep Rnd 2 – 60 sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, * skip next 2 dc, 5 dc in next dc, skip next 2 dc **, sc in next sc; rep from * around, end at **,; join to first sc – 10 shells.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in first sc, * [ch 5, skip next dc, sc in next dc] twice **, ch 5, skip next dc, sc in next sc; rep from * around, end at **; (ch 2, tr) all in first sc to join and form last lp.
Rnd 6: Ch 5, * sc in next lp, ch 5; rep from * to last lp; sc in last lp, (ch 2, tr) all in top of tr to join and form last lp.
Rnds 7-29: Rep Rnd 6.
Rnd 30: Ch 3, sc in next lp, 3 tr in next sc**, sc in next p; rep from * around, end at **; join with a sl st in tr of Rnd 29.
Rnd 31: Sl st in next ch, sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 1, * sc in ch-3 sp, (3 dc in next tr) 3 times; rep from * around; join to first sc.
Rnd 32: Ch 7, * skip next 4 dc, 3 dc in next dc, ch 3, skip next 4 dc **, tr in next sc, ch 3: rep from * around, end at **, join 4th ch of Ch-7.
Rnd 33: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, *s sc in next sp, sc in next 3 dc, 2 sc in next sp **, sc in tr, rep from * around, end at **; join to first sc.
Rnd 34: Ch 1, sc in first 5 sc; * ch 3, sl st in side lps of last sc made – picot made: skip next sc **, sc in next 7 sc: rep from * around, end at **; sc in last 2 sc; join. Fasten off.
Ties (Make 2): With larger hook, ch 160, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, sl st in rem lps along opposite side of ch. Fasten off. Weave ties through Rnd 32. Knot ends tog.
