Turn a plastic snowman ornament into a unique decoupaged snowman decoration for Christmas.
Craft Supplies:
- Plastic/Acrylic Snowman Ornament (made in two parts)
- Cream colour acrylic paint
- Ribbon
- Tassel
- Ribbon for hanger and side seam
- Miscellaneous embellishments
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Fibre, handmade or tissue paper
- Craft glue or decoupage medium
.
Project Instructions:
Begin by washing the inside of your snowman ornament thoroughly and allow it to dry.
Apply acrylic paint to the two parts on the inside of the ornament. I painted my ornament with a cream colour, white paint isn’t very attractive. You’ll need 2-3 coats of paint; allow each coat to dry completely. Once your paint is dry, snap the ornament closed.
If you are using coloured paper, match your paint to your paper going up or down a shade. The paint colour will show through the finished ornament so choose your colour carefully.
You can apply one piece of paper to fit the entire ornament or apply bits of paper, either method looks nice. For these ornaments, I applied one piece of fibre paper to each side and then used scraps on the bottom of ornament. Cover your entire ornament with white glue or decoupage glue and place your paper over the glue. Pour glue over your paper and gently smooth the paper over the ornament, repeating this process until the entire ornament is covered with paper. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Now you need to add a hanger. You can use anything you like for this. Feed your hanger strand through the hole in the top of ornament (if it is clogged with glue just push something sharp through the hole to clear it). Tie hanger in a knot and place a dot of hot glue at the top of the ornament and push your knot into the glue. This will be hidden with further embellishments.
Using your choice of ribbon, begin at the top centre of your ornament and glue the ribbon along the side seam of your ornament, finishing at the top where you originally started. Cut the excess ribbon off. Hot glue a tassel of your choice to the bottom centre of the ornament.
Now you need to add the extras. First begin with a ribbon tied in a multi-loop bow, glue this to the centre top of your ornament and then hot glue whatever little trinkets you’d like to add.
