Learn how to use a small angel ornament as the centerpiece for a homemade Christmas angel display with fresh evergreens and pine cones.
Craft Supplies:
- Water proof container (I used a ceramic dish)
- Oasis (floral foam for fresh flowers)
- Winter greenery (I love red pine, dogwood and juniper)
- Pine cones (I used 4)
- Ribbon Bow and other optional embellishments
- Cutters for branches
- Ceramic Angel ornament (I found her at Walmart)
Project Instructions:
When I saw this angel ornament at Walmart, this idea came to me. She was so pretty and the lights on her were battery operated which meant that I wouldn’t have to worry about electrical cords.
Decorating for the winter months is not only fun, it’s inexpensive and adds a wonderful scent to your home. This project is very easy and no floral arranging skill is required. Winter greens, such as red or scotch pine, juniper, dogwood, spruce or any other evergreen is perfect for this project. I even used lavender and rosemary sprigs on my display.
Four Easy DIY Steps:
Fill your container with Oasis and soak thoroughly. Begin cutting branches to fit. You don’t need to arrange them in any particular order, but I prefer having the fuller branches, like red pine, scotch pine, etc. along the lower area of the arrangement and up the back center. Refer to the photo for placement. I like to begin with the lower or outside layers first and then fill the center. It really is easy so don’t be afraid to give it a try.
Protect the Angel from Water: I wrapped the base of my angel in plastic wrap to protect it from the water and placed it on top of the oasis, before inserting the greenery.
Insert the evergreens around the angel ornament. Fill in any little holes with small pieces of branches that would otherwise be wasted. You don’t need a lot of greenery for this project.
Finish with a bow wired or glued at the front. Add wire to each of 4 pine cones and poke the wires into the oasis wherever you want the pine cones positioned. I love these arrangements and they last for several weeks. Be sure to keep them watered. Evergreens drink a lot!
If you love angels, you’re sure to like this little rose angel that you can make from a silk rose and a wooden doll pin (like a clothespin).
