Homemade Scented Cotton Doily Sachets

Homemade Doily Sachets

These pretty, scented doilies are easy to make and instead of potpourri or sachet pellets, you can use regular bar soap to provide the scent.

Craft Supplies:

Cotton doily (synthetic fabrics won’t hold the scent as well)
Ribbon
Hot glue (for children use tacky glue)
Soap (bars, small decorator soaps, etc)
Cheese cloth or tulle scraps

Craft Instructions:

I used a five inch doily for the homemade sachets shown here, but you can make them larger or smaller depending on the size of doilies that you choose.

First, fold a cotton doily in half and weave a strip of ribbon through the holes in the doily. Refer to the photo, beginning to weave the ribbon at one end of the fold and ending at the other end of the fold.<br />

Gently pull the ribbon up at the centre point where the bow will be. Cut the ribbon and a small shoe lace bow.

Glue each of the cut ends (at either end of the doily fold), by folding a little of each ribbon end over and gluing it to the back side of the ribbon. This will prevent the ribbon from fraying.

Tuck the ribbon ends inside the doily so they can’t be seen.

You can wrap potpourri or sachet pellets in cheese cloth or tulle and insert them in the centre of the doily, but small scented soap bars or shavings of soap can also be wrapped in a little cheese cloth and inserted in the centre.

These homemade doily sachets make fabulous additions to your clothing drawers or to hang up in your clothes closet.
