From Wire Hanger to Pretty Lace Clothes Hanger

Wrapped in lace, a wire clothes hanger becomes a thing of beauty.

This easy sewing project teaches you how to embellish and decorate a common wire clothes hanger using lace, ribbon and some basic machine sewing.

Strictly feminine, trimmed with lace and satin ribbon, this is a great way of beautifying a wire clothes hanger! It’s also practical because the pretty hanger that you’ll be making has a lacy texture that stops your clothes from slipping off the hanger.

Please use those rather buying new materials. Use what you have, or you think might work, as a substitute for any items on the following materials list. That said, here’s my affiliate disclosure (but I mean it, make-do and recycle first, if you can!)

Lace Clothes Hanger: Free Project Instructions

1. Cut a piece of Ribbon that is long enough to reach from the tip of the hanger to the base of hanger loop.

With the right sides of the ribbon together lengthwise, machine or hand sew along the edge and one end.

Using a pencil or similar tool, turn piece right side out. Do not place over hook just yet.

2. Wrap a strip of batting around the entire hanger, including the hook and stitch in place to secure. You can also use hot glue to simplify this process.

Take the ribbon strip that you made previously and pull it over the hook section.

3. Cut a piece of lace that measures the entire span of the area of your hanger that you wish to cover with lace then add a few inches to the length.

I used approximately one meter of lace for this craft project.

4. To the centre wrong side of the lace, sew a strip of 1 inch wide ribbon down the entire piece of lace.

Refer to the photos to see what the end result should look like.

Stitch the two ends of the lace together, right sides together, leaving a small opening at the center of the seam.

5. You now have a loop of lace with the ends joined together.

Pull the lace loop, at the seam that you just stitched together, over the hook of the hanger with the right side of the lace facing up.

Fold the lace, wrong sides together, to cover the entire hanger and run a stitch around the entire hanger to secure. Be sure to also hand stitch the hook ribbon securely to the lace section of the hanger.

6. Tie a small bow around the neck of the hanger and secure with a couple of stitches.

You have now created a pretty lace clothes hanger which makes a perfect homemade gift or a practical addition for special clothes in your closet.
