This little art lesson will show you how to make a hand print turkey, which really means how to use the outline of your hand to draw a turkey. It is a good art project for Thanksgiving or Fall and, if you like, you can add your own touches, such as feathers or glitter.
.
Craft Supplies:
- drawing paper or construction paper
- pencil
- paint or crayons
- optional: feathers and glue
- scissors (if you want to cut out the turkey)
How to Draw a Turkey:
First, place your hand on a piece of white paper.
Draw lightly around the outline of your hand with a pencil.
Add a triangle on the side of your thumb mark to make a beak.
Over the base of the triangle beak, add an oval shape to make the turkey’s wattle.
Draw a small circle on the turkey’s head (near the top of the thumb shape), to make an eye. Draw a smaller circle inside the first one and color it black.
Add two legs at the bottom of the turkey. As you can see from our drawings, you can make a leg by drawing one line down from the bottom of the turkey, and adding three smaller lines to make the turkey’s foot.
Finally, paint or color the body of the turkey. You can now add a few curved lines to represent the turkey’s wings.
Additions:
f you have some feathers, glue some to each of the four fingers to dress up the turkey’s tail.
If you’re making a poster or a Thanksgiving card with your turkey hand print picture, then you could also include the Thanksgiving Turkey Poem shown here. The version at the bottom is available to print alone (just click on the poem framed by dots to print it out).
Thanksgiving Turkey Poem
This isn’t just a turkey as you can plainly see,
I made it with my hand which is a part of me.
It comes with lots of love especially to say,
I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving Day.
