Japanese Lantern Scarf
designed by Wendy D. Johnson
This cuddly scarf is worked on US8 needles, using one skein of Alchemy Japanese Lantern yarn.
Editor’s Note: This yarn, according to Yarndex Yarn Director, has been discontinued for several years now. However, I believe that you could still make this scarf using a similar boucle yarn.
Yarndex describes Alchemy Japanese Lantern yarn like this:
Alchemy’s “Japanese Lantern” is a soft, worsted weight, boucle yarn with a contrasting fine base thread. It can be used for a variety of projects including sweaters, scarves, handbags, tops, and shawls. “Japanese Lantern” is a blend of 40% wool, 37% silk and 23% linen.
Their description is also augmented by detailed close-up photos of the yarn itself so you should easily be able to find a comparable yarn.
Instructions:
Knit 4 rows
Next row: *knit 1, yarn-over twice, repeat from * to last stitch, knit 1.
Next row:
Knit across, dropping the yarn-overs.
Repeat until scarf reaches 66″ or desired length.
Use remaining yarn to make a fringe.
