How to Crochet a Small Purse or Bag
Designed by Twila Lenoir
This would make a great child’s purse, embellished with pony beads to complement or constrast with the yarn that you are using.
What You Need:
- Your choice of yarn (I used Caron Dazzleaire worsted weight 4 ply)
- Pony beads (in colors to match or contrast yarn)
- Your choice of hook suitable for worsted weight yarn
.
Free Pattern:

Rnd 14: Ch 4 , skip next dc, * dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st repeat from* around, joining to 3 rd ch of ch 4.
Rnd 15: Ch 1, * sc, ch 3, sc, all in the next sp, 2 sc in next sp. repeat from* around, join. Cut and weave it into bag.
Straps:
Cut two 8-yard lengths of yarn. Bring the 4 cut ends together and tape them down on a counter top. Slip a pencil in the end with the two loops, pull taut, and twirl the pencil around until the yarn tries to twist around itself when you release the tension a little. Now bring the looped end together with the taped end and tie a knot at the end. Smooth out the strap and thread it thru rnd 14. Now, like tying a shoe, pull the two ends of the strap so that the bag is closed, make the X and bring the two ends together and tie a knot about 3 inches from bottom (see photo) to make a tassel.
