Snowman in a Pot Candle Holder
by Jane Lake and Twila Lenoir

Similar clay pot snowman ornaments are outrageously expensive in the stores at Christmas, so make your own with styrofoam, a clay pot and saucer!
If you have some tiny clay pots, make wee clay pot Christmas elves to put an elf on your shelf!

Supplies:
- 2 inch clay pot
- 1 inch clay saucer
- 2 inch styrofoam ball and a 1 inch ball
- tooth picks
- small straw broom
- two twigs
- fake snow or make your own snow paint mixture
- paint
- ribbon for a scarf
- 3 buttons
- pebbles, sand, marbles or similar to weight the pot
How to:
1. First paint the pots in your choice of color. Once dry, you could add seasonal decals or paint on a holly leaf or other Christmas motif.
2. Take the one inch ball and slice a bit off the top so that it is flat enough to hold the saucer. Take the tooth pick and cover one end with glue before inserting this into the small ball. Cover the rest of the toothpick in glue and insert into the 2 inch ball, thus joining both balls together. Now you have the makings of a snowman! Fill the clay pot with something heavy, like pebbles, sand or marbles, to give weight to the pot and help prevent the candle holder from falling over.
3. Mix fake snow and white paint, or white sand and paint, and spread thinly over the snowman and part of the clay pot, as illustrated.
4. Glue the clay saucer on top of the snowman. Glue on button or google eyes. Take half a tooth pick or something similar and paint this orange; let dry and insert for the snowman’s carrot nose. Make a smile of black dots with craft paint or permanent marker.
5. Tie ribbon around the snowman’s neck and cut small cuts on both of the tails. Tack the scarf down with a little glue. Add three buttons down the front of the snowman’s belly and insert two small twigs as arms. Glue the small broom to one of the twig “hands.”
6. Add some snow or your snow paint mixture to the top of the saucer. All you need to do now is add a candle.
Caution: Please remember – never light a candle without adult supervision and never leave a lit candle unattended.
